P90X Days 44-45

April29

Day 44
May and I WALKED 5 miles today. If either of us tried to run, we would just cough. She’s coming down with something, too :pout:

I met with Lois of Avanti Organizing today. We worked on updating her website, and in trade, she’s going to help me organize my mess of a home office.

I took the boys to swim lessons yesterday, and Zevan refused to get in the water. I am so irritated by this. He kept asking about the “other pool” I actually looked last night to see if we could get on the last half session, but of course the Pro I class is full :fit:

Zander really had a good time. I was a bit nonplussed by the use of noodles and kickboards, however. I thought they’d just be working on the bobbing (station 1 of Swim America).

Day 45
I had a bad coughing night last night when i went to bed. I tried propping myself with 3 pillows, but once I laid down, it was just over. This is pretty frustrating.

This morning I did Back & Biceps/Ab Ripper. I need to buy my 20 lb and 12 lb dumbbells! I tried to get some this weekend, but I couldn’t find any plain hex metal dumbbells at Big 5 or Target. I need to try KMart.

Today I totally burned out my biceps – yowza. That’s going to hurt later… :uh:

I’m so tired right now :tired:, waiting for ArtSports class to tire out the boys.

Tonight is climbing night. Turns out May has some kind of flu type thing (fever & chills), so she can’t climb. I might just end up bouldering by myself tonight before meeting Candy for eats.

P90X Days 40 – 43

April27

Day 40 – I did Legs & Back and Ab Ripper X today. Then we had lunch at Poor Richard’s. I had NO voice today. I ended up writing notes and Zander READ them. That’s right, he can read. REALLY well, I might add. I’m so proud!

After lunch, we went over to Thorndale Park for playdate. Still, could barely talk. It was a great playdate though. Everyone was there – people I haven’t seen in months, I think.

We had to bow out early so I could go to the doctor about this head cold. Turns out it was not a head cold. A sinus infection. Lovely. I got an Rx for Amoxicillin and Flonase. And coupons for Mucinex and Delsym.

The boys have been great through all this. Amazingly great.

My cough is worse. And at night – it’s now coming from my chest. Great.

Day 41 – I feel like crap. I dress to go work out, but my head is pounding and I feel awful. 10 minutes before I’m supposed to meet May for a run, I call and cancel. :pout: And you know how I *HATE* to miss a workout. I’m afraid it will cause me more harm than good. I have a small thought that I might do Kenpo X later in the day. I don’t. I sleep.

Mike & Candy come over to watch BSG with us – we’re 4 weeks behind! We watch 3 eps. Holy crap. Good stuff. The later it gets, the more I cough. Lovely.

Day 42 – rest day. Doug takes Zander to skate lessons and Zevan and I attend a mass with the bishop recognizing my dad and his class who are studying to become deacons. Zevan is *really* good during mass. Clingy, but well behaved. After mass, we see that Doug and Zander arrived during mass. We hit the reception and afterwards, have an indulgent lunch at Phantom Canyon

The rest of the day, I’m fighting this infection. I nap. I cough. I lay on the sofa. I cough. That night, Doug and I watch The Day After Tomorrow – now that’s a spectacle of a movie. Entertaining, for sure. We play 2 levels of Halo and head to bed. And I’m coughing.

Day 43 – My voice is coming back – something must be working. The coughing is less painful. We have breakfast with the grandma & grandpa Scott, Georgiana, Tom and Jesse. When we come home, we all have a few rounds of Uno. Zevan beats everyone! It’s a pretty lazy day.

I feel good, so I decide to do my scheduled workout. Chest, Shoulders & Triceps plus Ab Ripper X. My triceps seem weaker, but my chest/shoulders feel stronger. Interesting. Can I say how much I hate Fifer Scissors? UGH. I need to get some 12 lb and 20 lbs dumbbells today.

My food choices have been bad. I need to get back to a clean diet – pronto!

P90X Days 38 & 39 with a head cold

April23

Quick update here

Yesterday morning, May came over and we did Back and Biceps, then Ab Ripper X, THEN a 2.25 mile run down Mesa, across Uintah and up 19th.

I need to buy 12 lb and 20 lb dumbbells.

Last night, I went bouldering for about 35-40 minutes. I definitely feel an improvement in my bouldering since starting the P90X workouts. The back and shoulder muscles are definitely helping my climbing.

After that I met Candy & Tiffany at Shuga’s. Mmm mmm good.

Today I woke up with no voice. none. I feel okay, though. I sound much worse than I feel. Then I was trying to figure out, should I rest? Should I sweat it out?

I got to GOG to meet May for a run, and she was asking me if I was sure I wanted to run. I went to bed early last night (10 PM), so I felt rested. I just ran easy. We did a short distance, just 3.75 miles. And we walked the last half mile or so. I felt slow, but otherwise okay. I just wasn’t able to chat with May like we usually do. Which was kind of a bummer.

I’m meeting with Megan C and Rachel and their kids for climbing this afternoon. Just for an hour. When I called Rachel, she was worried about me, too.

But, honestly, I sound AWFUL, but I feel fine. It’s all up in my head – slight congestion, mostly that I have no voice. Whispering is about the best I sound.

I was supposed to make some calls today about the venue for the next LinkedIn Live! networking event, but I cannot speak on the phone.

I’ve been taking Emergen-C twice a day and a dropperful of colloidal silver once a day to try and knock it out. Plus cough drops. If I’m not feeling better tomorrow, I think I’ll have to go in to the doctor and see what’s up.

P90X – Days 28 – 37

April21

Wow, how quickly the days go by! I need to update more often because it takes me a while to figure out what I did when it gets this long between posts.

Day 28 – Rest Day. But it’s Zander’s first day of roller skating lessons. After the lesson, we can stay for the session and parents skate for free. I skate for about 15 minutes with the kiddos. And I don’t fall. Not too bad. Next week I’ll bring my blades.

Day 29 – Recovery week is over! Today was Chest, Shoulders & Triceps. Nothing like a brand new work out to make you feel uncoordinated and week. but I made it through, and it was good. I’m going to be sore tomorrow!

Day 30- Speed workout with May. In 2 parts because my Nike+ iPod receiver disconnected during the 2nd set. BRUTAL.

Day 31 – May comes over to do Legs and Back with me! So cool to have a workout partner. She takes my 30 day P90X pictures.

Day 32 – May and I do a late run today of the Take 5 in the Garden 5 mi course. And today I start my cycle. UGH. I feel low energy, it feels like I’m running through mud.

Day 33 – Back and Biceps today. Pull-ups – will it ever get easier?

I finally take a look at my 30 day pictures, and I am majorly disappointed. I can’t see any changes. It’s been a total blow to my ego.

Of course, it was the day before my period, so that probably put me at a disadvantage right there. I’m frustrated. The scale hovers around 133.

I definitely feel stronger and my clothes fit better. I can take solace in that.

Day 34 – No run today – so I stay home and do Kenpo X. I *love* Kenpo X!

Day 35 – Rest day. I brought my roller blades to the rink and got to skate for 20 minutes after his class. I even manage to make one lap around skating BACKWARDS. After skating, we hosted Zevan’s birthday party at home. Lots of fun, and lots of food. I try to load up on fruits and veggies, but the pancit, lumpia and birthday cake call to me as well…

Day 36 – I’m wrecked. I’m sick. My throat is sore; my head is pounding and congested; I’m exhausted. I crashed for hours on the sofa, and thought I would never be able to get my workout in today.

BUT! I rested. And somehow got up the gumption to start Chest, Shoulders and Triceps shortly before 10 PM. CRAZY, and it was hard work, but I did it.

Day 37 – I’m still sick, but it’s more irritating that anything else. May can’t run today so I stay home and do Plyometrics today – man, it totally *is* the MOTHER of all P90X workouts.

I look at my 30 day pix again. I do see one change in the photos – my back is slightly more defined. I’ll take it! The scale reads 132.4 today. I have to do some measurements and see if I can see the change more clearly there. All I know is that I’m wearing the capri pants that haven’t fit me since summer 2006. So that’s a good thing.

And we’re all caught up. Check me out. Onward!

P90X – Days 24, 25, 26, 27

April11

Well, I’m still here. Still pressing play and running.

Day 24
A 5 mile run with May on the Santa Fe trail. Unfortunately, my Nike+ iPod receiver comes loose, so I only get half the workout recorded.

Day 25
X Stretch today – nice. I like this one. Now *this* workout feels like a recovery…

Then I have a chiropractic appt with Dr. John – feeling good!

Day 26
5+ mile run with May, the basic course of the upcoming 5 mi Take 5 in the Garden race. We go to far in one section and add 3/4 mile to our run. It’s COLD, then its warm, then by the time we finish, windy and cold again. Brrr….

Day 27
Yoga X. And I actually do the entire workout at once, from start of finish. Still my least favorite of the bunch. I am unable to do upward dog or cobra- my lower back feels strained. So during those times, I stay in plank. Can’t do the crane either – I can’t get it down.

Feeling bleh still. Waiting for my cycle to start.

I’ll be glad to get back to the weight training and regular running again…

Food? Don’t ask! I’m still up and down with this.

P90X – Day 22 & 23

April7

Yesterday I started my first recovery week of the program.

It was the 90 minute Yoga X program – which I have so far avoided since I usually run on the scheduled Yoga X day.

I didn’t have time to do the whole thing in the morning, so I did the first 50 minutes, then we spent the day at the zoo (10-3) and then I did the last 40 minutes after we got home.

This work out is my least favorite so far. It requires a lot of strength and balance and flexibility and makes me sweat like crazy. I prefer the more relaxing stretchy yoga. I need to work on my flexibility and balance for sure, and this is very intense.

Also, I did Shoulders & Arms the day before, and my shoulders were sore.

I was supposed to run this morning, but May has a sick child and a 2 hour delayed start for their school ( – there’s no precipitation), so I did my first attempt at Core Synergistics.

For once I skipped the bonus round and went right to the cooldown.

Man, that was tough. Recovery week, my ass – this is hard work.

I felt very discouraged throughout the workout again, which is not like me. My mind kept saying, “I can’t do this.” :bummer: Then I realized that I also feel like a big bloaty mess, so I’m thinking that my cycle is going to start soon. Just fab.

PMS just sucks. I’m going to have to *fight* to press play, work hard and eat right. Because I already feel like I just want to curl up on the couch, under the covers and eat lots of salty, fatty & sugary stuff while watching tv.

Man, I can’t believe what I’m typing. Whine, whine, whine… :thatsnotright:

I need normal hormones for an attitude adjustment! :drillsgt:

I’m SO not looking forward to getting on the scale today :weightgain:

So far behind… P90X updates Day 14-21

April5

Okay, so generally speaking, I’ve been good about my workouts. I missed an Ab Ripper X workout this week, but other than that, I’m on track with my modified running/P90X workouts.

Day 14, Saturday: My rest day was a day of massive amounts of housework (cleaning and tackling the laundry monster). Oh, and slogging through my inbox of work-related emails.

Day 15, Sunday: Push ups and pull ups – this workout is my least favorite in many ways, but I know it’s probably the best for me. This week my reps were lower than in previous weeks. Hopefully, my form is better (because I can’t possibly be getting weaker!) Ab Ripper X goes well. I’m always lying on the ground after those mason twists.

Day 16, Monday: Back to running. May and I hit the Garden of the Gods trails for an easy 4.75 mi run

Day 17, Tuesday: Legs and Back. Now that I’ve got the exercises down, I feel like I can just really go for the maximum burn on everything. Afterwards, I’m shaky but accomplished. And then I do Ab Ripper X. Yowza. That night, I go climbing. And guess what. I’m feeling pretty strong and muscling up routes that I would normally balk on. I can feel the power! Particularly in my upper back/shoulders.

Day 18, Wednesday: A quick 5k plus run at my favorite park

Day 19, Thursday: Oh man. I had the boys with me, I had tons of work to do, and I totally ran out of time to work out. :bummer:

Day 20, Friday: May and I run the course for the Take 5 in the Garden race in May. The hills are killer, but we finish in under an hour at a decent pace. We set goals for the race…

Day 21, Saturday: I’m supposed to rest, but instead, I make up for my missed workout on Thursday. Shoulders and Arms, my favorite weight training workout. I increase my weights on nearly every exercise and am barely making 12 reps instead of easily completing 15 reps on a lot of exercises. I skip Ab Ripper X because I need to do it tomorrow after Chest and Back.

Food? Well, I’m listening to my body and doing the best that I can right now. I’m always looking to add more protein wherever I can. I have had some physical issues with the drastic diet change I tried the first 10 days, and I am now just feeling back to healthy.

I am loving how my upper body is shaping up. Good biceps, starting to see definition in my triceps and back. It’s good stuff.

Onward!
