Some goals for the holidays and my training…

Filed under: Healthy Body, The Road to Sanity — Maida @ 8:38 pm

Well, I did my 17 mile workout today, and I’m FEELING it - in my hips and my legs and my energy level.

I can only focus on one thing at a time - and right now that needs to be the marathon on January 13 at Disneyworld.

So I’m just going to stick to my training program of running 3x a week and climbing 1x per week.  I will watch, but not strictly curb my calorie intake.  But I am making myself more conscientious about what I eat.  But I’m not depriving myself of melting moments or christmas crinkles…

This week I vow to be in bed by 12:30 AM no matter what.  I’m going to try and bump that up 15 minutes earlier each week until the marathon.  I definitely function better or more sleep.  Imagine that.  dunno

I wonder what my step count is like on my off days.  Probably not very high since I sit on my swiss ball in front of the computer most of the time.  blush

17 mile workout

Filed under: Healthy Body, The Road to Sanity — Maida @ 2:47 pm

So I got up early, and started my run about 20 minutes after I originally intended to.

I started at Mobilize, went past Criterium and caught the Santa Fe Trail near Woodmen. About a mile later, May called, saying she left Woodmen Roberts and was on her way to meet me.

She joined me and we headed north. For a long way. We ran for 16 miles, and I think I took maybe a total of ten minutes walking, plus 2 potty breaks. After we reached 16.23 miles, we walked for a mile. I think that really helped my recovery.

My longest run ever!!!

I’m definitely feeling it.  I need a nap.

Next week is my recovery week, and I think I might just get myself an hour hot stone massage from Lori at Tuscany and use the $10 off coupon that we got last night  thumbsup  Oh yeah!

Last night at Meadowmuffins…

Dani replied November 30, 2007, 12:31:56 AM

We were hot mamas!  boobs  It’s sad when a bunch of old, married mamas are hotter than all the little chippy college girls in the bar…  Maida had this 21 year-old all over her stuff! And we were getting the stink-eye from a little group of of barely legal girls in booby shirts. giggle   Haven’t had cute boys to dance to Journey songs with in a LOOOOONNGG time!

Too much fun!  You ladies can party with me any time!   eyebrow3

When I think about you, I touch myself…   whistling

Well, Dani had the hottie of the guys all over her stuff.   highfive

I can’t remember the last time I slow danced with a guy - singing along with Journey at the top of my lungs.  And then he was more than willing to sing a duet of Paradise by the Dashboard Light!   rubeyes  For real?!   happylove

And I’ve never had to sing a song that someone else picked out before - thankfully Dani was more familiar with it than I was.  I only knew the chorus.

So, does anyone know some nice single girls we can set these guys up with?   Grin

Right after I got home, Zevan woke up and was calling for me - he peed in his pjs  doh  So, I washed him off and changed him into his clothes for school this morning - worked great - no fuss this morning when he got up.

I didn’t get to bed until 1 AM, and the next thing I know, it was 6:33 AM.  I laid in bed for another 20 minutes, and then had to get the boys up and dressed and then get my stuff ready for my 17 mile workout at 7:45 AM.  rubeyes Yep, you read that right.  17 miles. Why, oh why, didn’t I schedule my recovery week this week?

Spa nights can be quarterly for sure!  Next one: February 28 thumbsup

Getting into the holiday spirit

Filed under: Healthy Mind & Spirit, Healthy Kids, The Road to Sanity — Maida @ 3:24 pm

Oh man, I just left Ross with stuff that I just picked up.  whistling

Not TOO bad, I got them each some learning stuff like wipe-off flash cards sets, and some superhero plate/cup/bowl sets.  (Kristi - did you see a Teen Titans one?)  I also got a birthday gift for Kylie  happylove

I had already bought them each 2 Leapster cartridges - Target had a sale on them last week.

I’ve asked each set of grandparents to buy them ArtSports memberships.  I don’t know what the boys have asked for on their own.  They do that.  loveeyes

I put on XM Holly today and put out my Christmas decorations.  I don’t have a lot, just one plastic tub full of candles and tschotskes.  I got out the stockings and Santa hats, too.  santa We have a little artificial tree for the upstairs hall.  I think I’ll take the boys to the dollar store today and get some tiny ornaments to hang on it.

I can’t wait to get the tree. xmastree  I love getting the tree.  We have high ceilings, and one year we got a 13 ft tree.  Doug doesn’t let me get one that big anymore pout

Well, we were GOING to run at Ute Valley Park, but it was way too windy, so we ended up at the Santa Fe trail instead. Less windy, still cold.

Found - The Big Bug Search

Filed under: Healthy Kids, The Road to Sanity — Maida @ 4:10 pm

The book has returned!   yay

I say that because when we got back from running errands today, the book was sitting propped up on the couch.   dunno

Doug said it was there when he got home, but Jerianne didn’t mention it to him, and I didn’t tell her that I was looking for it, so why would she display it like that?

Weird. headscratch

In Search Of… The Big Bug Search - yellow edition

Filed under: Healthy Kids, The Road to Sanity — Maida @ 8:53 am

OMG - so we can’t find Zevan’s favorite book of all time The Big Bug Search.

I told him I would order a new one (it’s an Usborne book that we ordered from Scholastic), but the newer versions have a blue or white cover and he wants his original one

Looks like this

Right now I have emails out to all the sellers on Amazon and AbeBooks asking them for that cover…

We spent an hour searching the house and cars yesterday…  I had the grandparents check their houses and also checked Zevan’s classroom with no luck.  pout

We have gotten HOURS out of these books with the ZBoys.  It’s fun and challenging for Doug and I, too.

We have Great Undersea Search, Great Dinosaur Search, Great Animal Search, too.  thumbsup   Of course, the Big Bug Search is Zevan’s all time favorite because he LOVES bugs…

Easy Like Sunday Morning - NOT! - a tempo run

Filed under: Healthy Body, The Road to Sanity — Maida @ 10:21 pm

Running on Sundays is difficult. I like sleeping in. I like having breakfast. Which means I have to wait 2 hours after eating to run. I’m not very motivated after that. unsure

Luckily, Doug suggested a hike with the boys in GOG. So they dropped me off at the park entrance, and they headed over to Siamese Twins.

I thought it was cold, but it was really, really warm. After 5 minutes, I took off my sweatshirt hat and gloves and stuck them behind a rock for me to pick up on our way out.

I forgot my earphones, so I ended up doing a tempo workout with no music, having to watch the times to start/stop each interval on my own. That was just okay, but annoying to have to keep looking at the iPod to see how many minutes I had run.

Long run - 15 miles!

Filed under: Healthy Body, The Road to Sanity — Maida @ 12:47 pm

My longest run - ever.

So, I was supposed to meet up with Helen and some other gals from the Colorado Springs Women’s Running Group. I fell asleep early last night, and didn’t get all my stuff prepared.

So this morning was a “Where’s my hydration belt? Where are my keys?” kind of morning.

For some reason, I thought I had Helen’s cell number in my phone, so imagine my surprise when I got there and I didn’t!

I started around 8:20 AM and just went out Sinton to GOG, then did a small out and back in GOG and came back for 15 miles, took me just under 3 hours plus bathroom stops.

I’ve never been out that way before. I think I might have messed up because I ended up on the sidewalk of GOG Road. I don’t really like the Sinton Trail. It’s all paved. And it’s not very pretty. And there’s this spooky tunnel you go through. I think I’ll stick to the Greenway.

It was close to 5 miles when I got to GOG. Then I went out on the trails for additional mileage so that when I got back to the car, I would be done.

On my way back, it was getting colder and windier. Then, it snowed on me! I can’t believe how cold it got near the end. Brrr! freezing

My hands are *still* cold. We’re headed out to the Aquatic Fitness Center to go swimming. I definitely need to get in the hot tub, even if it’s just for 10 minutes.

But, surprisingly, I felt pretty good near the end. I ran nearly the entire distance. It’s amazing with carbing up with Thanksgiving dinner and a good night’s sleep will do for you!

Thanksgiving dinner with the Scotts (and my dad)

Filed under: Healthy Mind & Spirit, The Road to Sanity — Maida @ 8:17 pm

We had a very lovely, low key Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings (except for stuffing, which I did miss) at Georgiana and Tom’s house. We joined Tom, Georgiana, Jess, Greg, Joshua, Grandma, Grandpa and even Lolo (Lola was working) for dinner. It was really great.

After dinner we watched Cars. And then we opened some crackers and then headed home. It was a very nice night.

Pre-Thanksgiving easy run

Filed under: Healthy Body, Healthy Kids, The Road to Sanity — Maida @ 1:39 pm

So I wanted to get the boys to burn off some energy, so we headed over to the middle school track so they could ride bikes while I jogged a couple of miles to loosen up for my long run on Friday.

Turns out a running track is not the ideal surface for bike riding. So… it was a bit of a pain, and the boys ended up biking in the parking lot, while I jogged maybe 3 laps on the track and the rest of the time mostly walked around the parking lot.

Happy Thankgiving!

Filed under: Healthy Mind & Spirit, The Road to Sanity — Maida @ 10:18 am

I made my cranberry apple relish last night, and I have Tiffany’s Melting Moments dough chilling in the refrigerator…

I’m in the dining room on my laptop, and Doug and the boys are doing stencil drawings on the same table in front of me.

I’ve got my English Toffee dessert tea, and I’m still in my PJs.

I’m thankful that we have food to eat, a place to live and lots of love in our hearts.

I’m thankful for the wonderful women at West Side Moms who have been so open and supportive to me through the years.

And especially for those who have worked their way into my heart when I thought it wasn’t open.

Hope your Thanksgiving is peaceful and full of love, friends and family!!!   happylove

And fantastic yummy food! eat
